Greens/EFA call for suspension of EU-Israel Association Agreement
In light of the rapidly declining humanitarian situation in Gaza and to apply diplomatic pressure on the Israeli government to lift the ongoing aid blockade, the Greens/EFA Group welcomes the long overdue review of the EU-Israel Association Agreement and calls for immediate action, such as the suspension of the Association Agreement. We call for an embargo on the exports of arms and equipment used to fuel war in Gaza and the expansion of illegal settlements.
MEP Bas Eickhout, Co-President of the Greens/EFA Group, comments:
“According to the UN, up to 14,000 innocent babies could die in Gaza if they don’t receive emergency aid soon. The Israeli government and military are responsible for the gravest violations of international law and human rights, we can’t stand idly by.
“The EU’s review of the EU-Israel Association Agreement is long overdue. In the face of this catastrophe, immediate action is essential and suspending the agreement must be the first step.”
MEP Terry Reintke, Co-President of the Greens/EFA Group, comments:
“We call for an immediate halt to all arms exports and military cooperation that fuel the destruction in Gaza and allow the expansion of illegal settlements. Every weapon sent increases the suffering and every settlement built violates international law.
“Israel has both a legal and moral duty to allow life-saving aid to reach those in desperate need. We continue to demand an immediate ceasefire, targeted sanctions, and full accountability.
“Time is running out not only for the children of Gaza but for the entire population. The EU must not remain silent. We must act now because lives depend on it.”
